GENERAL MOTH CLASS INFORMATION
ABOUT US
The International Moth Class is a true development class, constantly evolving through innovation and cutting-edge design. While today’s Moths are best known for foiling, the class originally started as a lowrider and was the first to demonstrate that hydrofoiling boats could be raced competitively.
The class consists of both foiling and lowriding fleets, each highly competitive in their own right. Lowriders, which follow a different development path without foiling, offer a more affordable and less physically demanding alternative while still pushing the boundaries of performance. This fleet features a diverse range of designs, with many older boats being refurbished and raced under a handicap system to level the playing field.
With its ultra-lightweight hull, powerful sail area, and minimal but essential class restrictions, the Moth continues to drive innovation in sailing. For a deeper dive into the official class rules and regulations, visit the Official Documents page.

CLASS RULES SPECIFICATIONS
The International Moth Class operates under the principles of Open Class Rules, which offer a unique and flexible framework for competitors. This means that in the Moth Class, virtually everything is permitted as long as it has not been explicitly prohibited in the class rules. This approach encourages innovation and creativity among designers and sailors, allowing them to experiment with various materials, designs, and technologies to enhance performance.
By embracing an open-minded philosophy, the International Moth Class fosters an environment where advancements in hydrofoiling and sailing techniques can flourish. Sailors are empowered to push the boundaries of what is possible on the water, leading to exciting developments that continually evolve the sport. As a result, the Moth Class is not just about adhering to strict regulations; it is about embracing the spirit of competition and ingenuity that drives the sailing community forward.
