I am very interested in sailing moths however, they are out of my price range. I am however happy to spend time building one. I have read many online blogs and looked at the Home build section of this site however I am still confused about how to go about building one. It seems that every moth is a little bit different in design and I have been unable to find a guide giving step by step instructions on how to build one ready for a completive racing, or a guide explaining what is needed when designing a moth.
My question is where can I find a building guide explaining how to build a moth? If not a full guide then where can I find a guide or some sort of blog explaining how to go about designing a moth from scratch? What are the key things a moth class boat must have in order to race?
Thank you for any help you give

Joey,
This is a brilliant idea! I built several Moths on my own an enjoyed each time very much. However, to save you from some of my early mistakes I'd recommend as follows:
1. Try a Moth
2. Join the IMCA or your national assoc.
3. Buy a cheap second hand Moth just to take you our on the water and go to as many regattas as possible. Experience in sailing a moth is crucial if you want to build one.
4. Talk to as many Mothies as possible.
5. Build your first Moth.
6. Learn from your mistakes
7. Build your second boat.
Forget advice from established boatbuilders (other than Moths), your boat would be most probably far too heavy.
Building on your own is more expensive than buying second hand.
Cheers

Hello,
I am interested in building a moth, but in my country there is none.
I would like to receive information on how they are parts of command of the rudder foil.

Hello
I am in South Africa and also looking at building a moth. As the case with Carlos, we also dont have any moths and it is to expensive to import - only option - Build one.
Have build boats before and everything on the moth makes sense, nut seem to struggle to get a good look at the foil process. Is it possible for someone to give some tips that have done this so far?
other option would be to build the boat, but buy second hand foils somewhere you can import. Do one actually get second hand foils sold separately?
